This loving tribute to the Tarot as a Muse is a fund raiser for Ink People Center for the Arts, conceived by Kathryne DeLorme, Carolyn Ayres and Libby Maynard. Each artist chose their card sight unseen from the 22 Majors, so one can say that the card chose them. Each artist then received a Tarot reading about why this archetype chose them and then took their "muse" back to their respective studios to see what would emerge.
A tarot deck consists of 78 cards, 56 cards called the Minor Arcana and 22 called the Major Arcana. The Minors are similar to our playing cards with four suits and court cards, representing the manifestation of our desires on earth, while the 22 Majors are the Keys of Awakening to the authentic, whole Self arranged as the journey of the Soul, symbolized by the first image of The Fool, that aspect of us that answers the call to claim his/her spiritual wholeness by stepping off into human incarnation. Tarot As Muse is a Major Arcana deck so each archetypal image that you see is a window, a door into Divine consciousness with a message about how to come back to the Self, to your authentic being.
In July of 2012 we had an exhibition of all 22 painting of each artist's interpretation of a Major Arcana card where we sold the first of our collectible Major Arcana Tarot deck, Tarot As Muse. These deck,s which benefit the Ink People's community youth projects, can be purchased online with the Ink People or can be found at the following venues in Humboldt County: in Eureka Humboldt Herbals at 300 2nd Street and The Sewell Gallery of Fine Arts In Arcata at Global Village Gallery, 973 H Street; Hair Unlimited at 1640 G Street and New World Water at 778 18th Street.
The original art was seen at the opening, July 7,2012 at the new Ink Annex, 47B West Third Street, Eureka, California.
Prints and note cards are available for many of the images.
